2007 Warrior Challenge - McGee scores all points in playoff game for ATX Elite

Jehling Sends St. Louis Past Austin, Into Title Game, 3-2

By Kevin Brereton
WSL California Correspondent

LANCASTER, Calif.--Senior Gerry Jehling scored a dramatic game-winning goal in the closing seconds to lift the St. Louis Samurai Blackbelts past Austin ATX, 3-2, on Sunday morning and put his team into the championship game of the boys elite division at the 2007 Adrenaline Warrior Challenge.

St. Louis (3-1), which tied for second place in the 16-team field, advanced to the title game on the first tiebreaker, fewest goals allowed. The Samurai will face unbeaten NorCal Elite (4-0) on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m., PST, at the Lancaster National Soccer Center.

With the score tied, and the game seemingly heading into overtime, Austin ATX failed to clear when Jehling stole the ball from ATX sophomore goalie Drew Rossman and launched a rainbow shot from just inside the midfield line into an empty cage.

"I'm glad we pulled that last one out in the end," Jehling said. "I was just trying to make somthing happen, riding that guy, and the goal was wide open. So I just let it go."

Blackbelts seniors Jason Engelbrecht and Ryan Gaterman each scored once for St. Louis and knocked Austin out of title contention.

In a losing effort, junior attack Jason McGee scored twice in the second half for Austin (2-2).

Austin outshot the Blackbelts, 14-10, but standout St. Louis senior goalie Michael Malashock held strong, saving seven shots.

3/8/2007 Westlake Routs St. Andrews 19-2
Author: Karl Wright - Prepsportsonline.com

For the fourth lacrosse match of their 2007 season, the Westlake Chaparrals varsity men played host to the St. Andrews Crusaders. Junior attackman Jason McGee wasted no time in showing their visitors what kind of evening this would be by scoring in the opening minutes of the first period. The Chaps quickly added another goal a couple of minutes later and the Crusaders found themselves down 0-2. But St. Andrews rallied back, scoring 2 unanswered goals themselves to tie Westlake by the end of the quarter, leaving the fans to think they might be seeing an evenly matched contest.

But, in fact, it would prove to be far from even. It was again Jason McGee that ignited the Chaps attack, scoring another goal to start the second quarter. And that spark would turn to flame as Westlake played on, scoring eight goals in the second quarter to lead the Crusaders 10-2 at halftime. By the end of the third period, the Chaps’ fire was uncontainable, as they took a 15-2 lead over St. Andrews Episcopal, and by the time the smoke finally cleared at the end of the fourth quarter, the score was 19-2.

McGee led the Chaps with 6 goals and 2 assists while senior middie Tommy Shapiro scored 2 goals and 3 assists. Senior middie Ben Warshawsky and senior attackman Clayton Cerzonsky each scored twice with Cerzonsky adding 3 assists as well. Freshman John Jackson also scored two goals with 1 assist. Scoring one goal each were Scott Marmillion, Zane Paduano, Jason DiGiovanni, TJ Duffy, and John Stribling. Goalies Zach Tays had 5 saves and Jake Emmert added 3 saves.

Westlake (2-2) next plays Vianney Marianist at Chaps Stadium on March 21st at 6:00p. The next match to be covered on this Westlake PSO website will be versus Austin High on April 2nd at 6:00p.
